A recent American study, published in Lancet Oncology last week, shows that some people with advanced kidney cancer that have slow-growing disease can be safely managed using active surveillance, or a “watch and wait” approach. This approach allows patients to avoid the debilitating side effects of non-curative drug treatment for months or even years, say the researchers.
