UK’s first high-energy proton beam therapy for cancer in Wales

The first high-energy proton beam therapy system to be installed in the UK has arrived at The Rutherford Cancer Centre, South Wales. The therapy uses a high-energy beam of protons rather than X-rays to deliver radiotherapy for patients, resulting in less damage to the surrounding healthy tissues.

Sites for proton beam therapy are scheduled for Northumberland, Reading, Liverpool and London in the near future.
