Hospital Pharmacy Europe reported that the number of cancer patients entering clinical trials has fallen drastically during the pandemic. This has created problems accessing treatment options, and delaying the development of innovative drugs and technologies. The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) has also reported that the number of patients recruited onto cancer clinical trials in England fell 60% during the pandemic and this affected almost every type of cancer.
The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in London has published a report about how to make trials more widely available to patients. This will improve access to clinical trials and help drive improvements in treatment options.
