Steve Pointon, person centred counsellor kidney cancer patient and one of our team, was invited to give a presentation to the European Oncology Nurse Society (EONS) at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress in Madrid, Spain.

During his presentationn, whilst sharing his personal story, Steve highlighted to the audience the importance of other things patients have to deal with whilst going through treatment and this awful disease. Steve discussed employment issues, financial concerns, the importance of mental health support from counsellors and the significant importance of peer support groups.

Following his presentation, Steve, along with Julia Black met with representatives from pharmaceutical companies and other industry experts to discuss how we can develop working relationships with Action Kidney Cancer.

Steve said “Despite this being only a 24 hour visit to the conference for me, I found it to be a really useful and valuable trip where a lot was achieved. There has been a lot of fantastic feedback to my presentation and I am glad to have been able to get such critical information across to those who look after us medically”.
