We at Kidney Cancer Support Network are part of the One Cancer Voice campaign to find a route of the pandemic for cancer patients and the ensure the UK’s cancer services eventually become world-leading. The campaign last Tuesday 16 March was published in various prestigious news outlets, both online and in press, and consisted of a social media campaign to push the message. The One Cancer Voice statement definitely had an impact: OCV Statement

As well as Newsbeat, it has been on BBC Breakfast, BBC News Channel, Radio 4 Today news, 5 Live breakfast and drive, national AM summaries, some BBC local radio outlets, plus a written piece for BBC News online and a digital video.  It’s been covered by nationals including The Times, Mail Online, The Sun, The i, Evening Standard, The Guardian and Sky. Reach ran it across loads of their regional titles too. Highlights and links below.

On Twitter #OneCancerVoice had: 5.24m Impressions (= the total number of times a piece of content was displayed/could have been seen by followers – i.e. the potential total audience); 2.87m reach (= the total number of unique users who actually saw the content- i.e. the actual total audience); 1.15k mentions.

In terms of next steps:

  • We will follow up with those we sent the statement to across governments and the NHS and are pushing with parliamentarians to raise in questions
  • We know that the chairs of 3 Parliamentary All Party Groups (Cancer, Radiotherapy and Health) are writing to the Chancellor and Health Secretary to ask that they secure funding to clear the cancer backlog
  • We know Labour wants to prioritise cancer across its health portfolio
  • We are hopeful that the Health & Social Care Select Committee will hold an inquiry into Cancer Services
  • We’re also going to do a few look back tweets this week.
