Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has poor survival because it does not show any symptoms at an early stage when it can be treated successfully. Researchers have developed a paper-based ‘plasmonic biosensor’ test using the detection of perilipin-2 (PLIN-2), a protein involved in the mobilisation of fat in the body, in urine to facilitate the early detection and diagnosis of RCC.
