An “unprecedented” study has revealed the most comprehensive map of cancer genomes to date. This has enables scientists to discover the genetic causes of some previously unexplained cancers.

The research was carried out by an international team involving more than 1,300 scientists and clinicians from 37 countries, who analysed more than 2,600 genomes of 38 different types of cancer. This research has created a huge resource of primary cancer genomes and will significantly improve understanding of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
