A naturally occurring biological substance that stimulates the body’s immune system and provides immunity to a particular disease. A vaccine typically contains an agent that resembles the disease-causing virus or bacterium, and is often made from weakened or killed forms of viruses or bacteria. Vaccines have been developed to help the immune system recognise and destroy cancer cells.
