The effects of radiotherapy on parts of the body that are not the target of the radiotherapy. The abscopal effect is a hypothesis in the treatment of metastatic cancer whereby shrinkage of untreated tumours occurs concurrently with shrinkage of tumours being targeted by radiotherapy.
