This year there was some very important data presented at the ESMO 2021 virtual meeting regarding COVID-19 and cancer. We have been dealing with this pandemic for a long time, and researchers have been working hard to generate data that can inform clinical decisions regarding the outcomes and risk factors in patients with cancer and COVID-19.

The data show that there were worse outcomes in patients with cancer affected with COVID-19 compared to people without cancer. Cancer by itself, and especially blood cancer and immunosuppression, has worse outcomes. People with cancer need to be careful and follow government guidelines, especially if they are not vaccinated.

Questions were answered about the impact of COVID-19 on cancer patients, the impact of cancer on the COVID-19 vaccine, important considerations to ensure vaccination for all, and the booster vaccination for cancer patients.
